Excel Aquatics is a swim school at 1770 Central Ave, Unit 17, in Colonie — on the same Central Avenue (Route 5) that runs out of the city past the University at Albany uptown campus area. We’ve been teaching children and adults to swim since 2012.
Why families from Albany choose Excel Aquatics
Our lessons are private and one-on-one. Each lesson is one swimmer with one instructor, so your child gets the instructor’s full attention from start to finish. The instructor gets to know how your child learns and plans each lesson around their next skill — whether that’s getting comfortable in the water, floating, breathing, or building strokes. Private lessons are available for children ages 3–13 and for adults.
Whether you live in Pine Hills, near Washington Park, or out by the UAlbany uptown campus, it’s a straight drive out Central Avenue to our door — no highway required.
“Our 4 and 6 year old daughters started in May 2024 and were notably excelling very shortly after. The staff and management are knowledgeable, approachable, kind and supportive.”
— Tracy O.

Getting here from Albany
From downtown Albany, plan on about 7 miles, roughly 18–25 minutes depending on traffic and lights. Take Washington Avenue west to Central Avenue (Route 5) and stay on Central Ave about 6 miles to 1770 Central Ave in Colonie. From uptown neighborhoods the drive is shorter. We’re in Unit 17.
Finding us: Park in the main lot at Village Square. Our entrance is behind Bruegger’s Bagels, on the left-hand side of the building as you face it from the lot. Follow the sidewalk and the Excel Aquatics “Walk to Entrance” sign to our main entrance.
